It seems like, when your controller doesn't work any more , the best PS3 controller fix would be to replace it with a brand new one .  But the controller itself might not be where the problem is.   Your controller could be out of sync due to a problem with the bluetooth element.  And if that's the case it's an easy enough fix.

The first PS3 controller fix you can try is to reset the bluetooth connection.  All you have to do is plug your controller into the USB charger, then push the "PS" button.  Now, unplug the USB charger cord and push the "PS" button again.  This should reset the bluetooth synchronization; if that was the problem you'll be good to go.

Another easy PS3 controller fix is just to keep your console well ventilated.  Some models of PS3 are more susceptible to heat than others and it's important to keep them positioned for air circulation otherwise you risk YLOD.  It's also important to keep your console clean and dust free.  If you stashed it in a corner when you got it and you haven't looked at it since, then it might be time for a good cleaning.

You could also open up your PS3, if you feel confident enough, and check the connections -- try using a good electronic cleaner to spray the connections (one that dries with no residue, specifically intended for electronic equipment). Sometimes a loose or dirty connection will cause problems for the controller. I would not recommend this if your console is still under warranty, because you might void the warranty coverage.

Every electronic system can develop bugs. That includes the PS3, even though it's got a good reputation among gamers.
