My speaker icon has dissapeared from my tool bar.?

I've tried to get the speaker icon back on my toolbar. When i got to the control panel & open up the sound & devices it says no audio device. I do have sound if i use the volume knob. How do i get the icon back? i do see the block to check mark the show icon but it won't let me check the box.

mine does that too...and i guess if you have speakers that have the knob to control the sound, the icon wont show...thats just my gues because mine went away when i had speakers that have a knob to control sound
