What Power Amplifier should i use?
I am considering getting a pair of Peavey PV118 subwoofers to go with my Peavey PV115 PA speakers. I am using a Tapco J-2500 power amplifier to run my PA speakers, but I don't think I can't find another Tapco and I don't think I have the money for a Mackie FR-2500. I am considering getting a QSC GX5 and a DBX 223XL crossover. The Tapco amplifier has 75 more watts than the GX5. Which amplifier should I use on the Subwoofers? Or does it matter?
Both Tapco and QSC are quality devices. QSC is a little more at home with power amps then Tapco with Tapco being the sun of Tascam. The DBX is also a quality device and should serve you well. Either way consider running the amp bridged mono for subs in the amp will run much more efficiently and your don't need stereo for subs. Also as you probably know you need to use a good large gauge cable for all that power. I'd use nothing smaller then 12 Ga. with less then a 100' run.
